Mission

We've made it our mission to educate the world about the injustices of cheap labour and child slavery. We're here to put a stop to this. We need your help. Together, we can make a difference.

To do this, we've made a list of goals to complete:

Our first goal is to find an unethical business and start the ball rolling to get them to change to fair trade or make ethical products. The company we are focusing on is Pump (major bottled water company).

Plastic bottles have many unethical concerns, both on the enironment and on human society.

It takes nearly 7 times as much water to make the plastic bottle than the amount of water it actually contains. Plastic bottle production uses 17 million barrels of oil a year, and for every ton of PET plastic that is made, 3 tonnes of carbon dioxide is emitted.

And as if that's not enough, many major bottled water companies use child labour to produce their plastic bottles with minimal or no worker's rights.

It has also been scientifically proven that plastic bottles can prove to be very harmful to humans, particularly females. Many plastic bottles leach chemicals into the water inside, affecting brain development and disrupting hormonal messaging in our bodies. This has also been linked to Type 2 diabetes, breast cancer, uterine cancer, decreased testosterone levels in males and have devestating effects on babies and children.

If you can call that ethical, you'd have to be insane.

There are many ways you can help this cause:

  •  Don't purchase bottled water.
  • Maybe use a re-useable metal one instead.
  • Spread the word and get your friends to stop buying bottled water too.

The next step is to them promote an ethical/ fair trade product. We've chosen Kit Kat. However, our work won't stop there. Although Kit Kat is a branch of Nestle, Kit Kats are the only fair trade product produced by this large company. We want to get Nestle to change to fair trade also.

In mid-January, 2010, Nestle Four-Finger Variety Kit Kats went fair trade. They have started a program to help the hundreds of child labourers on the Ivory Coast in western Africa. This will help to diminish- or perhaps even eliminate- child and cheap labour in one of the world's largest cocoa-producing countries. They plan to invest in multiple long-term developments, like education, hospitals, etc.

Some more fair trade and ethical products are:

However, Nestle, who manufacture Kit Kats, are not 100% FAIRTRADE certified. Throughout our research, we found that, aside from Kit Kat, none of Nestle's products are made with fair trade. They have been known to use child labour and trafficking to manufacture their products. This is outrageous and means that we still need to make sure Nestle continue their efforts in fair trade products.

Our third goal will be to try to get Nestle to go fair trade. Sign our petition on our "Petition" page above to help us.
